As a former student of history, teacher, and librarian - I like to curate resources/sources. And if you haven’t noticed there’s a lot out there about MINDFULNESS lately. So much, in fact, that it drives me a little crazy sometimes. So, I thought I’d share with you this week some of the MINDFULNESS resources/sources, I use and like. Also, please share some of your mindfulness tips & tools with me by making a COMMENT, below.
BOOKS:
A Year with C. S. Lewis | Daily Readings from His Classic Works | edited by Patricia S. Klein
I have always found C.S. Lewis inspiring and difficult. Reading short daily excerpts of his writings, I have discovered a whole new appreciation for his thoughtful writing.
Lincoln’s Devotional | The Believer’s Daily Treasure | Abraham Lincoln | Carl Sandburg
The history behind this collection is what drew me to it in the first instance. However, I stayed for the wisdom, in bite-size daily pieces. The idea that President Lincoln carried this same text is quite the added bonus.

CALENDAR:
We dance in the arms of the great dancer… REFLECTIONS FOR DAILY LIVING | a perpetual calendar of inspiring quotes and illustrations | Produced by The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville | 1999
Perpetual calendars are easy to find and you can find one to suit almost any sensibility from the silly to the serious. I’ve had this particular perpetual calendar since 1999. It lives on my kitchen window-sill near my sink. I see it every morning as I make my numerous morning drinks (subject for another stack). Each morning I flip the calendar to the next day and I’m greeted with my daily inspiration. It also allows me to jot down in the bottom corner, important dates: births, anniversaries, memorials, etc… Even on my busiest days - it provides me a bit of wisdom and much-needed reminders.
PODCASTS:
The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz) | Ascension
https://media.ascensionpress.com/podcast/all-bible-in-a-year-episodes/
In about 20 minutes, Father Mike reads two or three Bible passages then provides excellent commentary. It is a big challenge to read the Bible in a Year and I am not going to make it. However, I believe I may make it within two years and this podcast allows me to access the episodes anytime. This is obviously a decidedly religious podcast but with a quick search for podcasts & Meditations - a myriad of options are available at the push of a button.
APPS:
Headspace - https://www.headspace.com
I learned about this app from my brother. In fact, he gifted each person in our family with an introduction to the app for a trial period. It provides something for everyone.
Similar to Headspace but with a religious twist. Meditation, prayers, even help to fall asleep. It has some great connections to other content like the TV show CHOSEN and Bishop Barron/Word on Fire Institute.
I tried to keep this list brief. If you found it helpful, please share it. And please COMMENT some of your mindfulness resources/practices below.
Until next time, be well!
